We want every brother — and everyone — to be able to use this site.

Our commitment. Zeta Beta Xi wants this site to be usable by everyone, including brothers who rely on assistive technology — screen readers, keyboard navigation, or larger text. We build with that in mind, and we keep improving.
What we've done
- Keyboard friendly — you can move through and use the site without a mouse, and the item you're on shows a visible focus outline.
- Respects "reduce motion" — if your device is set to reduce motion, we turn animations off.
- Works with screen readers — we use meaningful headings, labels on form fields, and descriptive text for links and buttons.
- Readable contrast — we aim for strong color contrast in both light and dark modes.
- Zoom & resize — the layout adapts to phones, tablets, and desktops, and to larger text or browser zoom.
- Descriptive images — meaningful images include alternative text.
The standard we aim for
We strive to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. This is our goal and an ongoing effort — not a formal certification — and parts of the site will always be a work in progress.
Known limitations
We'd rather be honest about the areas we're still improving:
- Photos uploaded by brothers in the gallery use their caption as the description, so a photo posted without a caption has only a generic label.
- The interactive family tree is highly visual and can be harder to explore with a screen reader — the same names and information are also available in the Active and Alumni directories.
- Most pop-up dialogs close with the ✕ button or by clicking outside; a few do not yet close with the Escape key.
